Duff House Banff UP041258jhp Banff Duff House white snow winter sunshine Aberdeenshire Scottish blue sky visitor attraction in large public park and near a golf course on the banks of the River Deveron near its estuary into the Moray Firth on the north coast of Aberdeenshire. Banff is a town with a history dating back to the 12th century and was granted a charter by Robert the Bruce in the 14th Century. Once a thriving herring fishing port it is now a quiet town catering more to tourism with its excellent golf course, marina and has several sandy beaches. It is reckoned to be one of the driest and sunniest locations is Scotland. To the east over the River is the sister fishing town of MacDuff, which remains a busy fishing harbour supporting its own trawler fleet with fishmarket and its excellent facilities expanding for the watersport and pleasure sailing industry. This property is owned by the Council and is open to the public. This photograph should not be used for product endorsement except with approval from the authorities. Fyvie Castle Spring bnm6521jhp Scotland Aberdeenshire Fyvie Castle spring daffodils lake gean blossom drive entrance taken on the 6th April 2017 the long driveway to the carpark of this once royal stronghold in medieval Scotland. It dates from around 1390 and is one of the finest examples of the Scottish Baronial style. A tradition throughout its ruling families means there are five towers for each family and sumptuous interiors from the 13th century to the Edwardian era are all on show. Landscaped parkland and a redeveloped 18th century walled garden are also on offer. It is a National Trust for Scotland property is situated 25 miles NW of Aberdeen on the Oldmeldrum to Turriff road [A947] and is open to the public from April to end of September and the grounds are normally open all year round. Fetternear House bnm6661jhp Fetternear House Kemnay ruin front coat arms panel carved Leslie Aberdeenshire Scotland shell towers front castellated historical building located near Kemnay near the River Don which was gutted by a fire in 1919 and has remained a shell ever since. The location has had a history going back for over 800 years, there was a medieval Palace for the Bishop’s of Aberdeen, which was located to the south of the present house in the photograph. SEPP have carried out excavations of the site finding considerable evidence of the early palace. The current house dates from around 1566 after it was acquired by the Leslies of Balquhain although from a small tower originally it has expanded to the present façade in 1818. The carved panel above the main entrance is attributed to Count Patrick Leslie around 1690. Although it is accessible to view it is in a dangerous state of disrepair and is fenced off from public access.
