This is inside the church next to the elaborately carved Sacrament House now protected by a clear awning is this carved tombstone lid bearing the Gordon Coat of Arms. This 13th Century building was later remodelled in 16th century, with a fine elaborately carved and detailed Scottish medieval door and inside it has a very beautiful sacrament house on the inside, styled like a monstrance and inserted in a lancet window. The backdrop is the spectacular Craig Burn Den or gorge with large woodland of mature beech trees. Photograph shows entrance doorway from the walk up from the roadway but basic structure is a shell. Still in Forbes family, probably built around late 1580’s by Patrick Forbes, Bishop of Aberdeen from 1564-1663. Fairly traditional Z-Plan tower-house of the area and in a state unlikely to be restored. The effect although not accurate or truth does increase the sense of height and scale. Corse Castle Scotland asd5300jhp Corse O'Neil Castle fort imposing height upwards exterior tower spring ruin is located off B9119 Tarland road-take O’Neil Corse turnoff for a few hundred yards and is best viewed from road as very overgrown with stinging nettles and is not in good structural condition for exploring. Photograph shows exterior from the southern approach aside the adjacent pond and steep bank giving an increased sense of height and making it seem very imposing. Still in Forbes family, probably built around late 1580’s by Patrick Forbes, Bishop of Aberdeen from 1564-1663. Fairly traditional Z-Plan tower-house of the area and in a state unlikely to be restored. This particular image shows exaggerated converging verticals because of the closeness of the lens and despite it being an ultra wide focal length for given the situation of the castle to steep slopes it is not possible to get far enough away. The effect although not accurate or truth does increase the sense of height and scale.
