Corse Castle Scotland asd5298jhp Corse O'Neil Castle Scotland Aberdeenshire east Interior wall steps spring ruin is located off B9119 Tarland road-take O’Neil Corse turnoff for a few hundred yards and is best viewed from road as very overgrown with stinging nettles and is not in good structural condition for exploring. Photograph shows east interior windows and floor levels but the basic structure is a shell with SE tower on right. Still in Forbes family, probably built around late 1580’s by Patrick Forbes, Bishop of Aberdeen from 1564-1663. In the great hall is the Horn of Leys, supposedly a symbol of this grant. The tower house is one of the finest examples of the period and some of the original wall paintings still survive. Crathes Castle Gardens qax2437jhp Crathes Castle June Border lupins purple flowers colours summer garden path Deeside Aberdeenshire Scotland one of the centre pieces is the walled garden of this historic property of which this is the famous June Border past its best thanks to a combination of wind and lack of sunny days giving a late visit. The building dates from the 16th century although the land belonged to the Burnett’s of Leys as a gift from Robert the Bruce in 1323. In the great hall is the Horn of Leys, supposedly a symbol of this grant. The tower house is one of the finest examples of the period and some of the original wall paintings still survive. Auchindoir Snowdrops vq8042jhp St Mary's Church Auchindoir Cabrach tombstones obelisk Scotland winter snowdrops ruin romantic is reached by taking first left turning after Lumsden on road to Rhynie and Huntly in North East Aberdeenshire near Morayshire. This 13th Century building was later remodelled in 16th century, with this fine Scottish medieval door and has a very beautiful sacrament house on the inside, styled like a monstrance and inserted in a lancet window - now covered by clear roof to protect it. Next to it is spectacular Craig Burn Den or gorge with large woodland of mature beech trees.
