Kinord Celtic Cross xvv2535jhp Loch Kinord Scottish Celtic Cross Cross-slab Royal Deeside Aberdeenshire lying beneath Hill of Morven and located to the north of North Deeside Road mid way the River Dee valley between Aboyne and Ballater. Nearby the loch is the Burn O'Vat an impressive gorge with vistors centre and public toilets while on the loch is a Crannog, prehistoric man made island and Osprey can sometimes be seen fishing in the tranquil waters of this SSSI. The cross slab dates from around 9th Century AD and stands near to its original location on the north shore overlooking the loch. Bourtreebush RSC 912543JHP Bourtreebush Recumbent Stone Circle Portlethen Aberdeenshire North East Scotland Photo viewed from one of main monoliths and looking towards a distant flanker. Located in a field near the main A92 road between Stonehaven and Aberdeen and is nearby another RSC called Aquhorthies both dating from the Bronze Age around 2000BC. Picardy Pictish Stone VQ9132JHP Picardy Pictish Symbol Stone Incised Carved Ancient Scottish Pillar Insch Aberdeenshire dates from the 6/7th century AD and stands in a field off minor road to Largie near Insch in Aberdeenshire, North East Scotland. A rough whinstone pillar with three finely incised prehistoric Pictish symbols of double disc and Z-rod, coiled serpent and simple mirror. It is apparently in its original position; near a burial and in view of the nearby hill fort of Dunnideer. Maidenstone Pitcaple VQ9139JHP Maiden Stone Ancient Picts Pictish Christian symbols carved Cross-slab Aberdeenshire Scotland stands by the roadside near Pitcaple and is easily accessible for the causal visit from a small lay-by carpark. It is thought to date from the 9th century AD with a mixture of Pictish and early Christian symbolism of pink granite stone and is probably one of the last carved in Grampian. It is so-called after the daughter of a local landowner who died during her elopement.
