This view looks over the River Don near Kemnay in Aberdeenshire North east Scotland. The distinct shape of the hilltop is the Mither Tap on which are the remains of a vitrified stone Pictish fort and for large part of North east is a useful location marker as to the position of Inverurie, the largest rural town on the banks of the river.

The Howe of Mearns is a central part low lying flat fertile farmland in the centre of an area stretching from the south of Stonehaven to the Tay Estuary. Once you head North West over the various Angus Glens or over the Cairn O’Mount from Fettercairn you go into hill farming, moorland or forested estates onto Deeside and eventually reach the Highlands.

Scotland Aberdeenshire Deeside old road rape see field birch woodland summer alongside the Old Deeside Road between Inchmarlo and Kincardine O’Neil which passes Sluie Bog with its mature stand of Scots Pines and Craiglash Quarry on Royal Deeside west of Aberdeen in North East Scotland. Alongside the road bordering the field dykes or stone walls with a mixture of wild flowers such as foxgloves, harebells, the yellow cat’s ear and spear thistles, with their colours adding to the summer colours in this part of rural Deeside.
