Aboyne River Dee road bridge view upstream riverbanks summer trees Royal Deeside Aberdeenshire Scotland viewed from the road bridge crossing the river to the south of this mid Deeside town lying between Aberdeen and Braemar on the River Dee on Royal Deeside. A popular tourist stopover with shops, restaurants, hotels and two golf courses is busy throughout the summer months with long established Highland Games and a recent and very successful Arts Festival based around a thriving Community Centre and Theatre. Crossing the River takes you onto the South Deeside Road, either east to Potarch turn or on through Ballogie, over Corsedardar to Finzean and Feughside. Westwards takes you via the Bridge of Ess and passed the Glen Tanar entrance to Dinnet and onto Ballater.

River Dee autumn colourful trees westwards Kincardine O’Neil Aberdeenshire Scotland Royal Deeside located juts west of this charming and almost untouched village heralded as the oldest village on Deeside with a history dating back before Christian times, situated on the River Dee at a ferry crossing point and connected to the early development of Christianity credited with a church set up by St Erchard around 933AD. Probably the most traditional of the Deeside villages with little modern development to change its original character situated between the major towns of Banchory and Aboyne on the north Deeside Road.
