Caption: | Soknopaiou Nesos Causeway Lake Qarun Desert Sand Rocks Egyptian fromthe ruined town, also called Dimyah al-Siba, a Ptolemaic town dating through to Roman times built on the shores of Lake Qarun or Moeris, with a substantial mudbrick enclosure wall partially buried surrounding the remains of a temple dedicated to Soknopaios, a form of the crocodile God Sobek. It is located in the western desert south of Cairo and is accessed by 4x4 from Faiyum and is often part of a desert trip including Qasr al-Saghah Temple. |
