| Caption: | Todhead Lighthouse buildings lantern tower Victorian clifftop Mearns Aberdeenshire Scotlandlocated near Catterline on the North east coast of Aberdeenshire south of Stonehaven stands vacantly over the pudding stone cliffs. Built in 1897 by D.A. Stevenson it is still a stylish if sad reminder of the heyday of Victorian Maritime heritage. Its short ‘dumpy’ tower hides a shaft dug into the cliffs underneath which allowed the original clockwork mechanism to operate as described in Jane Geddes’s Deeside and Mearns Architectural Guide. |
