Caption: | Heliopolis Ancient Egyptian Obelisk upwards looking Pharaoh Senousert photograph anglelocated north of Cairo is the oldest standing obelisk in Egypt at the site of the temple of Re-Atum although little is left of this once important sun cult centre and dating from around 1970BC at the beginning of the 12th Dynasty. Not visited usually as part of most tour packages it is an interesting visit enroute for other interesting Delta sites such as Tel Basta and Tanis. |
