Edfu Mammisi Detail EG052260JHP Edfu Temple Ancient Egypt Mammisi Carving Detail Ankh Was Scepter one of many carvings part of first place visited from the modern approach to this ancient monument located by the River Nile and is one of the main visits for most Luxor to Aswan cruise packages. This carving denotes 'All life and dominion' with the ankh and was on a bowl or heb symbol. One of the best preserved temples in Egypt this one is dedicated to the falcon God Horus and his granite likeness is probably one of the most photographed relicts in Egypt. Originally erected by Senwosret 1 it is mainly supplanted by the current Ptolemaic creation dating from 237BC, this particular part being started 116-71BC along with the present pylon.
