Caption: | Soknopaiou Nesos Ruins Desert Dimyah al-Siba Ptolemaic Egyptian horizon distanttown outline dating through to Roman times built by the shores of Lake Qarun or Moeris, with a substantial mudbrick enclosure wall partially buried surrounding the remains of a temple dedicated to Soknopaios, a form of the crocodile God Sobek. It is located in the western desert south of Cairo and is accessed by 4x4 from Faiyum and is often part of a desert trip including Qasr al-Saghah Temple here viewed on approach over the desert track from the Lake. |
