Caption: | Egypt stone Step Pyramid Saqqara framed date palms fertile greendesert backdrop and gives a very good idea of the reason for the location of this huge sprawling necropolis built along the desert escarpment well above the inundation zone of the River Nile. The fertile land supported the communities that built and later serviced these cult areas where the Valley Temple for instance would be the receiving place for offerings in memory of a particular Pharaoh after he became a God. In this case the unique and earliest stone built tomb, the Step Pyramid of King Djoser from 2500BC, the first experiment of the later true pyramid style is seen here towering above the fertile farming land that runs alongside the whole journey from Cairo. |
