It shows the birth of the young God Harsomtus, child of Hathor and Horus of Edfu. This temple is also famous as having one of the only representations the famous Queen Cleopatra V11 with her son by Julius Caesar, Caesarion. The temple can be reached by road from Luxor and is also the destination for a popular day cruise on the River Nile from Luxor via Qena. It is probably the most vibrant of all the Egyptian centres street shopping centres as it caters not for the tourist and is always busy as it runs adjacent to the main River Nile waterfront for a mile or so. Boy King Lotus EG1179JHP Egyptian Cairo Museum young Pharaoh Tutankhamun head lotus flower photo was found in his Luxor tomb and is now in the prime antiquities collection in Cairo taken during visits between 1994 and 1996 when photography was allowed albeit without flash and tripod. None is of studio quality, being handheld with existing, usually extremely poor light and using slide film, pushed Fuji 400asa to get a suitable aperture and shutter speed. Most of the photos are from the Tutankahum exhibits while the rest are items that interested me as I explored this wonderful and extensive collection, requiring many more hours if not days and is only hinted at during the usual one or two hour visit made on a package tour. Luxor Amun Statue EG962090JHP Egypt Museum Luxor Inside Exhibit Amun Statue Tutankhamun Isis Knot was taken inside this modern building on the waterfront of the River Nile with its fascinating collection covering the extensive history of ancient Egypt including items from the Tomb of Tutankahum. This particular exhibit was found in the Karnak Cachette and celebrates the Young Kings return to the Theban Gods fold after the destruction of Amarna and his father Akhenaten is in the museum proper and was taken in 1996 when you could pay to take photographs but not use a tripod, now not allowed at all, and I used Kodak 5042 Tungsten Slide film which still meant hand holding was at the extremes of useful photography in low light conditions. Tuna el-Gebel Tomb of Isadora 6290EG07JHP Necropolis Tomb Isadora Mummy Ancient Egyptian Desert Minya Tuna el-Gebel is City of the Dead with various chapels, temples, and this is the slightly morbid Tomb of Isodora a young woman who was drowned and whose mummy is on show inside. There are also catacombs for animal mummies and many more which are still buried and unexcavated under the desert sands. The site is centred on a Temple of Thoth, badly ruined, dating from Ramesside through to Roman times and was a place of pilgrimage so there are buildings for accommodation as well and remains of a Roman water wheel obtaining its water from a deep well. Near to the cemetery is the northern boundary stela of Akhenaten which can be visited after a short low grade climb up steps where it is protected from the elements behind a Perspex screen. This figure of a young man, Ipiemsafipi, son of the scribe and chancellor Khennu from the Middle kingdom was found on the site famous for the Step Pyramid built for King Djoser around 2500BC under the architectural control of Imhotep who later was deified. Clachnaben is the distinctive hill with its prominent tor outcrop of rock is visible from much of lower Deeside and overlooking the road winding through the larch forest of Glen Dye Estate before reaching the single track Spital Bridge the bane of many a lorry and coach drivers life. The photograph shows young new plantations to north which caused much controversy at the time of planting becuase of the possible destruction of the habitat of wildlife especially hen harriers. The range of clouds includes cirrus, storm clouds, white puffy fair weather clouds, monster cloud formations, haar, sun beams, lenticular, mama, a wide range of different meteorological structures and types.
NLC over Deeside qax2335jhp Noctilucent clouds NLC June summer night west moon Scotland Aberdeenshire sky blue network rare event usually occurring between latitudes 55 and 65 degrees resembling thin cirrus but most often a bluish silvery colour although orange or reddish colours from latent twilight are visible towards the horizon and are a beautiful and eerie sight, the spidery network rather like the mind filaments from Dumbledore's Pensieve in Harry Potter usually of sapphire blue, gossamer white colours from ice crystals catching the last twilight is seen around the time the brightest stars appear and their strength grows around maximum darkness, usually after midnight BST. They happen only a few times a year and need a clear cloudless night best to see them although in this photo the normal clouds are also present. This is taken looking West from Crooktree towards Deeside with a descending young moon on the extreme left and 25 miles west of Aberdeen in North East Scotland, my first show in 2018 in the early morning of the 19th June. Taken at 00.25.39 BST using a D700 Nikon DSLR with Tokina SD28-70, set at 28mm at f8, 5 second exposure at ISO200. It was extremely windy but with very little normal cloud cover. Baby Adder Snake 0784UP34jhp Tanar Glen Deeside Scottish reptile summer adder snake young viper basking near Tanar House a Glen which is a popular setting for weddings and photographs by its loch a short walk from the well known Ballroom. Glen Tanar which lies to the south of Aboyne on Royal Deeside in Aberdeenshire North East Scotland. The Glen is now a very regularly visited place with Braeloine Centre with Ranger and Visitors’ Centre, holiday cottages, fishing and easy access to many easy walks through ancient Scottish Caledonian Pine Forest and is the main route to Mount Keen. I photographed the snake on the driveway entrance to the main house sunning itself on the stone chips. Partridge on Dyke xvv1381jhp Partridge red-legged bird Scottish Deeside colours plumage Alectoris rufa standing on a stone wall and showing off its very striking feather patterns from black throat band, red legs and black and white side panels all making it ideal camouflage when running in the undergrowth. This particular bird was brought onto the estate as part of a selection of more interesting birds for the seasonal rough shooting and is not a native of this part of Scotland. A pair that hung around my cottage did breed and had a clutch of chicks although sadly they survived only a few days as it was the year I also had a feral Scottish Wild cat resident. One interesting problem I had was the male flying at my conservatory window seeing a reflection of itself and presumably seeing it as competition-I had to stick a sheet of paper over the outside of the glass until it moved on. This burning of the heather is an annual activity across the Scottish moors and hills allowing short young regenerated heather for easier access for the young grouse. Old heather gets very long, deep and thick and it is impossible for the grouse to eat and get around. On the Cabrach a few ruined crofts or farms can be seen and evidence of past Highland clearances as well as illustrating the hard life of farming in this unfertile moorland where in today’s harsh economic climate even sheep farming is a struggle. In the distance eastwards the distinct summit of the Tap O'Noth hill near Rhynie on which remains the vitrified fortifications from a Pictish hilltop fort can be seen and from which can be seen a similar relic from the past on Bennachie near Inverurie. This photo is taken on the border between Aberdeenshire and Morayshire on the main road between Rhynie and Dufftown. This 13th Century building was later remodelled in 16th century, with a fine elaborately carved and detailed Scottish medieval door and inside it has a very beautiful sacrament house on the inside, styled like a monstrance and inserted in a lancet window - now covered by clear roof to protect it. This view shows the setting of this ruin perched above the spectacular Craig Burn Den or gorge with large woodland of mature beech trees. Knock Castle Ballatervq8815jhp Knock Castle tower house Ballater Deeside Scotland Aberdeenshire larch fort ruin summer sunny is a Historic Scotland property to the south of town on Royal Deeside on the Balmoral Estate at Knock Farm accessed from the South Deeside Road. It has a sad history of family feuds between Gordon of Knock, the builder of the present tower, who dropped down dead on hearing the news that his family was killed in one day at the hands of the ‘Black’ Forbes of Strath Girnock. He in turn was later killed by Gordon of Abergeldie who inherited the castle but let it fell into disrepair. Photographs taken in the mid 90's mainly for the AA Publishing & Ordnance Survey Highland and Islands Guide book using transparency film covering the Highlands of Scotland from Inverness, northwards through Easter Ross to Wick and Thurso, along the Northern Coast, down the West Coast, including the Islands of Skye and Mull. Other material included was gathered for other AA Publishing Guides including Shetland, Pitlochry and Tayside. New photographs are now included from 2012 book commission travels in Angus, Perth, Kinross, Trossachs and Tayside.

Queens View Deeside qax4223jhp Queen’s View marker viewpoint Tarland sightseers visitors Deeside early summer broom Aberdeenshire at the Deeside Field Club marker pointing out the alignment of all the hills visible from the viewpoint is on the road out of Tarland heading north and ultimately takes you east to Aberdeen in North east Scotland. The central outline is of the mountain called Lochnagar, fourth highest in Britain and the distinct hill on the right is that of Morven. Claimed as a favourite viewpoint of Royal Deeside for Queen Victoria and hence it being called the Queens View. In the centre of this photograph, not visible because of distance, is the small hill with the Bronze Age Tomnaverie Recumbent Stone Circle built on it.
