The range of clouds includes cirrus, storm clouds, white puffy fair weather clouds, monster cloud formations, haar, sun beams, lenticular, mama, a wide range of different meteorological structures and types.

So far this summer, 2018, there have not been many colourful sunsets despite some of the warmest weather for many a year. The most dramatic and vibrant period only lasts a few minutes so it is very much being in the right place at the best time but it helps having a forest or nice river scene on the doorstep but with a major mountain range to the west of Deeside, often the sun setting behind them or a large bank of rain cloud kills off the best of any last minute colour. The biggest problem with summer sunsets are they can take longer from the start of colourful clouds through to the more subtle final reds and in that time you are an open meal ticket for the notorious Scottish midges but every evening the shapes and nature of the clouds and light is different. This one was taken on the 12th August, 2016 while there is a further selection taken on the 24th.

Evening winter clouds red pink colours westwards witch vane weather Deeside Aberdeenshire Scotland photo from Ord Fundlie near Kincardine O’Neil looking westwards about 25 miles west of Aberdeen in North East Scotland. Although not perhaps calendar material are none the less great photography subjects. Their shapes, size and often awesome sense of power make them a subject I enjoy photographing and are a truer reflection perhaps of the great mix of weather and light we have in the North East. The really colourful period seldom lasts long, maybe 15 mins, so it is very much being in the right place at the right time type of photography.

Scotland Morayshire Brodie Macbeth Hill Witches spring yellow gorse sunny green grass is situated near Brodie Castle on a small back road to the north of the A96 at Hardmuir. Tradition claims is was the site claimed by Shakespeare in his play Macbeth where the King of the same name met the three Witches. It is identified on Ordnance Survey maps as Macbeth’s Hillock. Nearby Brodie Castle which lies between Forres and Nairn in Morayshire Scottish Highlands is home of the Brodie family, the castle perhaps dates back as far as 1160 and came under attack from Montrose’s army but survived. Many additions were made subsequently and the collections of various items are extensive and of high quality.
This became a National Trust for Scotland property in 1980 and is situated about 4.5 miles west of Forres and the grounds are open to the public all the year round. The castle is open April to October at various times. Any of my photographs are for scenic/tourist use only and cannot be used for product endorsement without the explicit permission of the NTS.
