Aberdeen Victoria Pk 19377jhp Victoria Park Scottish summer fountain water jets yellow Aberdeen City flowers public park during one of the lovely early summer days in one several large municipal parks in the City of Aberdeen, some of the best displays are in Victoria park, a central residential park near the main ARI hospital and Westburn bowling lawns. This photograph was taken in 2002 the last year I used slide film, either 35mm or 645 as my main medium for landscape photography. They are still representative of the City despite their age and is chosen because of the lovely light and colours as it can still be on the right day. Coull Slack Fork 1916311jhp Tillylodge Slack Coull fork junction panorama Lochnagar mountain Deeside Scotland Aberdeenshire just above the viewpoint at the Deeside Field Club marker pointing out the alignment of all the hills visible from the viewpoint is on the road out of Tarland heading north and ultimately takes you east to Aberdeen in North east Scotland. The central outline is of the mountain called Lochnagar, fourth highest in Britain and the distinct hill on the right is that of Morven. Claimed as a favourite viewpoint of Royal Deeside for Queen Victoria and hence it being called the Queens View. In the centre of this photograph is the hill with the Bronze Age Tomnaverie Recumbent Stone Circle built on it. A popular hotel the Ramsay Arms and a working Distillery with a visitor’s centre offer attractions to visitor and I personally remember photographing a Queen Victoria and Prince Albert lookalike starting the Victorian Trail promotion for the then Kincardine and Deeside District Council. Ballater Refurbished Station qax2473jhp Ballater Old Station summer sunny finished rebuilt fire destroyed Deeside Scotland Aberdeenshire town which is some 40 miles west of Aberdeen in Aberdeenshire in North East Scotland. These photos taken in June 2018 show the completed reconstruction following the disastrous fire during the week of 10th May 2015 which all but destroyed the wooden building as can be seen in this photograph, including the Waiting Room Museum, the restaurant area, some small businesses although a replica railway carriage as used by Queen Victoria was saved. The original station was opened in 1866 and closed 100 years later in 1966 following the Beeching Cuts. The Station was as far as the Deeside Railway extended from Aberdeen and allowed Queen Victoria easier access to Balmoral Castle than previously travelling overland from Edzell. It was later used by HM Queen Elizabeth on her annual holidays at the Castle until the Station was closed when the railway line was disbanded in 1966. Happily the new station will once more be a central part of the tourist experience in the town. Ballater lies to the north of the River Dee it is a popular tourist centre for visitors travelling the length of this beautiful valley going southwards to Perth, visiting Balmoral Castle or Crathie Kirk or as a stopover before venturing northwards over the Lecht to Inverness. Linn of Dee xcv7993jhp Linn Dee Bridge opening plaque Victoria Deeside Glen Aberdeenshire Scotland dramatic dangerous bridge is as far west as the metal road goes in Glen Dee and the Linn is a popular visiting place because of the dangerous and spectacular nature of the river crashing though this narrow cleft in the granite rocks. A public carpark nearby is ideal parking for walkers heading north into the Cairngorms or westwards past the Chest of Dee into Glen Tilt and on to Blair Atholl or doubling back taking the metalled road to its end at the Quoich past the back of Mar Lodge and as far as the new National Trust for Scotland carpark. Bridge opened in September 1957 although the last digit is missing off the bridge, replacing a wooden one constructed in 1830; before that a mere plank of wood to cross by.
