This view is from a another community project to the west of the town and adjacent to the new bypass which in 2015 is in the middle stages of completion but should once it is finished offer panoramic views across the flat plain of the River Urie towards Bennachie and Garioch. One might however question the bad planning decision to allow a single wind turbine to be located in such a prominent position impacting on this iconic Aberdeenshire hilline. Loanhead Daviot zxc4664jhp Loanhead Daviot Recumbent Stone Circle wind turbines Scotland history modern Aberdeenshire located near the village of Daviot, west of Inverurie on the B9001 Rothienorman Road. Well signed from the road via the village, with a Historic Scotland carpark and easy access. One of the largest sites in the North East with evidence suggesting early use over a few centuries but possibly stopped around the Beaker period c 2000BC. There is evidence, along with much bone and skull fragments, of extensive cremation use and a possible wooden mortuary structure from the finds of postholes in the middle of the central area. One of the monoliths has five cup-marks in a line on its inner face. This is one shortcut I use, taking the right turn at Cushnie Forest, when heading northwards to Huntly from Torphins/Lumphanan, passing Craigievar Castle and then heading towards Donside from the Muir of Fowlis instead of heading for Alford and joining the Huntly road at Mossat.
