Saqqarah Unas Pyramid ancient Egyptian burial shaft Amun-Tefnakht General on the southwest corner near the Step Pyramid and which was the smallest of the pyramids built belonged to Unas, the last King of the 5th Dynasty around 2345BC and is a considerable state of disrepair although some of the finer quality Tura limestone casing still remains. The inside is now not accessible but is one of the easiest to enter and entry by Gaston Maspero was financed by Thomas Cook & Co where a highly decorated burial chamber covered in Pyramid Texts was uncovered along with a huge basalt sarcophagus. This burial shaft is similiar to several round this part of the complex but is not the Persion Shaft which is much deeper and is accessed down a spiral staircase.
