Alongside his pyramid are three smaller ones for his Queens, the larger for his chief queen, Khamerernebty 11. This is the North face of the pyramid with the entrance and the huge gash left by earlier more brutal attempts of accessing the burial chamber. Modern access is through the entrance in the course of unfinished granite blocks showing above the mound of soil. The pyramid has almost totally collapsed into a huge sandy mound but there were still one section of limestone casing intact and not plundered and around the site were hints at its previous enclosure wall structure with large sections of eroded limestone sticking out of the sand like a whales skeleton. The burial chamber thought to have been robbed shortly after his death is under the ground water table and is inaccessible. The site dates back to the Middle Kingdom-Senusret’a reign was 1971-1926BC and he was the son of Amenemhet 1 building his pyramid near his fathers. Bent Pyramid Dashur eg961329ajhp Egypt Dahshur Bent Red North Pyramids entrance high view vehicle sand desert is a famous and very distinct shape with a reduced slope created mid way up, possibly because of the need to complete the construction earlier than expected or its was structurally unsound. It is the most complete pyramid with most of its Tura limestone cladding intact, although some corners and near the top have been plundered but offer a good indicator of how the Giza pyramids would have looked when completed. Near the pyramid on its south side is a subsidiary one, badly degraded, which was found to have not been used and is felt to be too small for the King’s Queen Hetepheres. When I visited the site in 1995, the same year the military allowed tourist visits, the north entrance, there are two, was reached by climbing up the outside of the structure assisted by the helpful guide but I was unable to reach the burial chamber as I did not trust the rope ladder available. Nearby are several other pyramids of which the North or Red Pyramid also of Sneferu [Old Kingdom, 4th Dynasty c2613-2494BC] is the older, largest and most intact. Abu Sir Drainage eg9511922jhp Egypt Abu Sir necropolis pyramid Sahure water drains drainage channel rockcut near Saqqara lying on the desert plateau south from Giza is a complex of what were originally 14 pyramids of which only four are now discernible. The most complete is Old Kingdom Dynasty V King Sahure c 2480BC conforming to Fourth Dynasty plans and I was able to access the site in 1995 and took this amongst other photos. However after that the site was closed during visits up to 2005 while undergoing considerable excavation I understood so much more might now be visible assuming access of allowed. Near Memphis and the Saqqara entrances it was approached through the village of Abu Sir. Generally poorly constructed as in the twilight of the ‘Pyramid Age’ and when the centralised power of the crown declined, the remains although in a poor state of repair there were some fascinating remains such as a beautiful carved red granite column with sharp carved bas reliefs, channels for a drainage system, examples of highly skilled carving of granite blocks and shaped bowls thought to be for collecting blood from sacrificed bulls. Abu Sir Pyramids eg9512010jhp Egypt Egyptian Abu Sir necropolis pyramid Sahure columns mortuary temple near Saqqara lying on the desert plateau south from Giza is a complex of what were originally 14 pyramids of which only four are now discernible. The most complete is Old Kingdom Dynasty V King Sahure c 2480BC conforming to Fourth Dynasty plans and I was able to access the site in 1995 and took this amongst other photos. However after that the site was closed during visits up to 2005 while undergoing considerable excavation I understood so much more might now be visible assuming access of allowed.
