Rhynie Clatt rural farmland fields clouds hill Scottish autumn Aberdeenshire scene taken from the roadside from Rhynie to Clatt. It is a village dominated by the distinctive hill with remains of vitrified Pictish fort and also junction for heading westwards to Dufftown crossing the desolate moorland of the Cabrach or heading east to the Knockespoch viewpoint on Suie Hill on the road across to Alford. The main road passing through the village runs between Huntly and Alford.

Also has distinctive graveslab with carving of armoured knight Gilbert de Greenlaw, killed at battle of Harlaw in 1411 and later reused by a Forbes in 1592. It was unroofed in 1771 and now charming ruin on the northern banks of the River Don.

Scottish Corse Castle Aberdeenshire Mar Gunloop Musket Stone Wall Hole is located off B9119 Tarland road-take O’Neil Corse turnoff for a few hundred yards and is best viewed from road as very overgrown with stinging nettles and is not in good structural condition for exploring. Photographs show NW tower but basic structure is a shell with SE tower beyond. Still in Forbes family, probably built around late 1580’s by Patrick Forbes, Bishop of Aberdeen from 1564-1663. Fairly traditional Z-Plan tower-house of the area and in a state unlikely to be restored. Given that nearby Craigievar Castle is closed during 2008/9 for restoration this might fill a gap as part of the same family and very much in their historical area of Aberdeenshire.

Castle Fraser Front Fort Tower Stonewalls Entrance Door Lawn Aberdeenshire is situated at Craigearn near Kemnay in the Donside area of Aberdeenshire to the west of Aberdeen and this view the front of the property and the main entrance.
This is a National Trust for Scotland property situated about 16 miles west of Aberdeen and is open to the public all the year round. This building dates from between 1575 and 1636 is the â€œmost elaborate z-plan castleâ€ in existence in Scotland today and was the work of two master masons or builders called Bell and Leiper.
The tower house is one of the finest examples of the period and some of the original wall paintings still survive.
