Part of the City of Aberdeen, this northern area around the University was also a separate burgh and the focus for the oldest part of the city and especially its links with the University and the religious centre with St Machar's Cathedral Kirk nearby. This photograph was taken in 2002 the last year I used slide film, either 35mm or 645 as my main medium for landscape photography. They are still representative of the City despite their age and is chosen because of the lovely light and colours as it can still be on the right day although it has been more recently cleaned. Aberdeen Coopers Place 197227jhp Wrights Cooper Place lane houses summer Aberdeen University High Street Scottish City that can be seen along the High Street of Old Aberdeen now very much the centre of the University area as you walk between Kings College to St Machar's Drive and cross to the Chanonry. The University complex is located to the northern area of the modern City lying south of the River Don. These 18th century houses were sympathetically restored in 1965 and add great character to this iconic part of Old Aberdeen. This photograph was taken in 2002 the last year I used slide film, either 35mm or 645 as my main medium for landscape photography. They are still representative of the City despite their age and is chosen because of the lovely light and colours as it can still be on the right day. Aberdeen Seaton Autumn 1919512jhp Aberdeen City Seaton Park autumn colours Wallace Tower path bench is a wide expanse of parkland lying between the University and River Don to the north of the City in the North East of Scotland. The offers walks and many areas to exercise and enjoy flower displays as well with easy access across the famous Brig O’Balgownie to Donside and the banks of the River Don as it flows eventually into the North Sea. Also in the park is the Wallace Tower, a partial replica of Benholm’s House or Lodging once situated in the Netherkirkgate but demolished in 1964. The present structure incorporates some of the original stonework from this unique z-plan towerhouse and one of the four remaining 16th Century buildings in the City. Forres Springtime wtn2138jhp Forres Moray Scottish Spring Mosset Burn Crimea obelisk Thomson daffodils commemorating the work of a Scottish Doctor who died at the Battle of Alma in 1854. The obelisk is made of Peterhead Granite and stands 50 foot high and is surrounded in the springtime with pink and white cherry blossom. In the summer the town, this ancient Royal Burgh with a charter dating back to 1496 and perhaps even earlier is adorned with a famous park of hedge sculptures and extensive floral displays in its sunken garden making this a popular place for visitors. The town dating to ancient times lies to the east of the River Findhorn and the Burn of Mosset also offers an additional water feature. It alos has the Nelson Tower the first monument in Britain celebrating Nelson’s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. To the east of the town is the stone cross-slab obelisk called the Sueno Stone, recording the victory of the Picts over the Danes in 1014AD. Photographs taken in the mid 90's mainly for the AA Publishing & Ordnance Survey Highland and Islands Guide book using transparency film covering the Highlands of Scotland from Inverness, northwards through Easter Ross to Wick and Thurso, along the Northern Coast, down the West Coast, including the Islands of Skye and Mull. Other material included was gathered for other AA Publishing Guides including Shetland, Pitlochry and Tayside. New photographs are now included from 2012 book commission travels in Angus, Perth, Kinross, Trossachs and Tayside.

The harbour has a long history of supporting trade across the North Sea with my own forebears working in the wood shipping trade in the 1800’s. A WW2 airfield of note with contemporary museum, beautiful beach, strong academic history, golf course and many other attractions on offer. The basin at Montrose, a tidal inland lake is rich with bird life especially as a roosting area for geese in the winter months. This view is from the railway station on the main east coast line from Aberdeen to Edinburgh and further south to London.
