Constructed by Thutmosis 111 during his reign 1500-1450BC it shows continuous repair and additions through until the Ptolemaic period while inside the small sanctuaries are broken granite states of Ptah and Sekhmet. On the day I visited we had very poor light conditions caused by an encroaching sand storm and it was very overcast and my batteries also ran out just as I was doing the interior photographs and tut tut, no spares. Images in this gallery cover modern Luxor, general agriculture and photos not specific to other groups such as the recent excavations of the Sphinx Avenue, the alabaster factory and workers and the residential houses bordering the various roads to the main sites. It also includes the balloon flights and views from the balloon.
Luxor West Bank EG947629jhp Luxor Nile Balloons flight soaring Western desert landing hills Egypt after passing the several famous temples situated on the West Bank location of the Nile at Luxor. Apart from the main sites visited, in this general area are several Tombs of the Nobles which are usually privately organised visits but very well worth the time if you have a few days to spare in Luxor. The balloon flight illustrated here was in 1994 and there were only two although in later years these increased greatly in numbers. This trip took off from the front of Hatshepsut just after dawn, a cold and interesting crossing of the Nile in the dark and long before the modern road bridge and eventually landed in the desert where the Hilton Hotel put on a beautiful breakfast buffet. I understand in recent times the breakfast has come to a boxed meal probably eaten on the bus journey back to the hotel or cruiseboat. Egyptian Car Dealership EG057100JHP Modern Egyptian Delta Town Street Shop Front Cars Dealer Spares in the area near the town of Zigazig north of Cairo which has recently had a new visitors centre and museum built for its Bubastis Temple Site which still remains a rather confusing collection of damaged material with the main temple of Bastet reflected in this photographs. Damaged by earthquakes some 2000 years ago as is seen in much of the structural damage today it is still fascinating with the excitement of finding beautiful carvings and examples of the craftsmanship of those ancient builders now hidden away amongst grass and a scatter field of damaged remnants from what was a huge cult site to the Cat Goddess Bastet visited by hundreds and thousands of pilgrims as recorded by Herodotus. Not usually part of normal Egyptian packages these sorts of town images are part of a private trip into the northern areas of Egypt part of an interesting day journey that should include Tanis as well.
