Probably covered as late as the Napoleonic exploration means the sun and exposure to the elements has not had long enough to destroy the colours completely something that will eventually happen. On the side of the huge black granite seats are carvings in excellent state of repair illustrating early the mythology of ancient Egypt, the Union of the Two Lands; Upper and Lower Egypt. Throughout this elegant structure, so much more understandable than the sprawling complex at Karnak, there are examples of the great skills of workmanship that give ancient Egyptian monuments their huge appeal and impact even in these modern days.
