Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights displays photographed taken over Aberdeeshire in Scotland since 1989 covering some 350 events with arc, rays, coronas with a wide rnage of shapes and colours
Deeside Aurora 2016 vbn1774jhp Aurora Borealis January 2016 Scottish green patches Deeside Aberdeenshire northwards taken on the 1st January, 2016 at Crooktree, 25 miles west of Aberdeen caused over the UK from a glancing CME and a timely end of the year 2015 gift given that the previous three displays I missed because of cloud cover. This photo was taken at 01.02UT 2016 with the active phase of the evenings display which started some 1 hour earlier shutting down. This photograph was taken with a Nikon D700 full frame DSLR using a 28mm Nikkor f2.8 lens at f4 and ISO setting of 3200 with an exposure time of 18 secs. This is taken looking due North and the green tinge is from low level oxygen gas at Crooktree, located between Torphins to the right and Craigton Hill and Kincardine O'Neil to the left. Hatshepsut Temple EG02121JHP Hatshepsut Temple Carved painted reliefs limestone Horus Netcher seated God Upper or central court was opened again in 2002 and makes the visit to this magificent temple almost complete except that entrance into the burial chmaber itself is restricted. This magnificent mortuary temple is located on the West Bank of the River Nile at Luxor at an area called Deir el-Bahri and built into the base of the cliffs of the Theban Hill behind which are branches of the Valley of the Kings. Karnak Temple Carving EG074941jhp Ancient Egyptian Queen Hatshepsut Maat Mut Amun Karnak Temple Transverse Hall is in the central area of this huge sprawling site located near Luxor City centre on the East Bank of the River Nile and Karnak is the largest religious complex on the Nile. The figure in the foreground could be Queen Hatshepsut as the cartouche above has ripple of water and bit of the feather that appear in her Named cartouche. She is presenting Goddess Maat to Amun [not in frame] led by the Goddess Mut below. Not a very expert interpretation so do not take as gospel. Karnak Hatshepsut Obelisk EG074942jhp Ancient Egyptian Queen Hatshepsut Granite Obelisk Karnak Temple Transverse Hall is in the central area of this huge sprawling site located near Luxor City centre on the East Bank of the River Nile and Karnak is the largest religious complex on the Nile. This view of Queen Hatshepsut's Obelisk, one of two remaining standing obelisks, is from between the fourth and fifth pylons looking north in the Transverse Hall. The obelisk of red Aswan granite is the third tallest standing in the world, weighs over 320 tons and stands nearly 30 metres. Encased by Thutmosis 111 who disapproved of his Aunt, his bid to remove her existence benefited us in that the lower section remained largely intact but higher sections were defaced by Akhenaten some 130 years later. Karnak The White Chapel EG074916jhp Egypt Karnak White Chapel Senusret columns hieroglyphs carvings detailed cartouches was one of the original and stars of the Open Air Museum in the Karnak complex on the East Bank of the River Nile at Luxor. As the oldest reconstruction at the site, dating from around 1970 -26 BC, testifies to one of the richest periods of craftsmanship in ancient Egypt, achieved perhaps because of the stability of his reign of over 30 years and is considered the peak of craftsmanship in the 12th Dynasty shown in some exquisite examples of jewellery found at Dashur. This area is not usually part of the standard tour package so has to be entered ‘privately’ and an additional ticket purchased on entry, accessed from the First Forecourt through the eastern gate past the famous standing statue of Ramses 11. Passing through an area full of stored blocks rescued from other parts of the Karnak site, you can view restored chapels including one of Amenhotep 1 alabaster barque chapel and another from the reign of Thutmosis 1V, the Chapelle Rouge of Hatshepsut and a recent larger addition is the reconstruction of Thutmosis IV [Thutmose] Festival Court for a quiet, contemplative and beautiful experience to the busy main Karnak tour.
