This photo was taken at 21.40hrsUT with active rays visible after a rain shower and clearing clouds which continued with rays until around 22.45hrsUT when the display waned. This photo was scanned from a 35mm colour slide film, Fuji RSP processed for a 1600asa rating using a Nikon FM2, 28mm f2.8 lens wide open at around 20 seconds.

This was taken at 09.12hrs BST on 5th July 2023 from the North side of Ord Fundlie Hill using a Nikon D700 FX body with 16-35mm at 19mm focal length, aperture of f11, 200ISO and shutter speed of 1/320 sec.

This summer double rainbow occurred on the late afternoon of 29th August, 2023 at 17.57BST from a rain shower passing over. Camera used was a Nikon D700 FX body with 16-35mm zoom lens at 16mm focal length, ISO 200 at f11 aperture with 1/320sec exposure. The shapes, size and colours make them a subject I enjoy photographing and are a reflection of the great mix of weather and light we have in the North East of Scotland. One big headache is the rain that creates them so lenses have to be kept dry or covered as much as possible as well as the photographer. This was taken from Ord Fundlie hillside by Crooktree farm track north of Kincardine O’Neil, looking across to the Hill of Fare and Torphins.

These clouds were taken at the Dinnet Glider strip layby were a morning but they changed very quickly for when I first spotted them they were far more like a large question mark but when I got to the layby, the first safe pull off place in about 5 mins they had moved and compacted quite significantly. Part of the old adage, always have your camera handy, as capturing those unusual natural events can be a matter of minutes.

Noctilucent clouds rain shower NLC summer night Scotland Aberdeenshire sky blue network rare event usually occurring between latitudes 55 and 65 degrees resembling thin cirrus but most often a bluish silvery colour although orange or reddish colours and are a beautiful and eerie sight, the spidery network rather like the mind filaments from Dumbeldore's Pensive in Harry Potter usually of sapphire blue, gossamer white or occasionally red colours from ice crystals catching the last twilight is seen around the time the brightest stars appear and their strength grows around maximum darkness, usually after midnight BST. They happen only a few times a year and need a clear cloudless night best to see them although in this photo the normal clouds are also present. This is taken looking magnetic 45 degrees from Crooktree over Torphins and 25 miles west of Aberdeen in North East Scotland, the early show of the evening of 6th July, 2014. Taken at 23.01 UT [ midnight in BST] using a D700 Nikon DSLR with Tokina SD 28-70mm lens at f4, .8 second exposure at ISO500. Glenbuchat Kirkton Ben Newe high view rural spring Scotland Aberdeenshire looking into the first part charming glen accessed off the A939/A944/A97 Ballater/Huntly road just at the entrance to a Historic Scotland maintained castle by the same name. It is open all the year round and is an unmanned property at which no entrance fee is applicable but there is a small carpark. Views of the Glen are seen from the top of the Castle northwards. The Glen itself has a delightful old Kirk which was a favourite of HM The Queen Mother and the road loops round the top of the glen and a traveller can exit the glen at Bellabeg further west along the A944, a continuation of the A97 which forks nearby southwards to Dinnet.
