Tut Nut Plaque EG11736JHP Egyptian Museum display pectoral Godess Nut Anubis shrine good, should be very gold looking and was shrine in the Tomb of Tutankhamun and is in the prime antiquities collection in Cairo taken during visits between 1994 and 1996 when photography was allowed albeit without flash and tripod. None is of studio quality, being handheld with existing, usually extremely poor light and using slide film, pushed Fuji 400asa to get a suitable aperture and shutter speed. Most of the photos are from the Tutankahum exhibits while the rest are items that interested me as I explored this wonderful and extensive collection, requiring many more hours if not days and is only hinted at during the usual one or two hour visit made on a package tour. Kalabsha Aswan EG203313jhp Kalabsha Temple wall carving plaque Mandulis Greek God king Aswan Lake Nasser relocated Egypt Roman Merwel Mandulis approach water High Dam is visited either privately from Aswan or part of a Lake Nasser cruise. In both cases the approach is by motorboat being located on an island which is impressive with the pylon facing the landing berth and a large flight of steps. On the left is a small Roman kiosk called Qertassi dedicated to the Goddess Hathor and at the rear of the main temple is a small temple from Ramasses 11 period carved out of a rock face although again relocated from near the original site of Kalabsha, some 40 km upstream on the banks of the original River Nile. All these three sites would have been flooded following the creation of Lake Nasser after construction of the Aswan High Dam in the 1960’s. In this first visit in 2000, the arrival was from the Nile cruiseboat and they anchored along the rocky shore rather than the main stepped landing. Khenu Mastaba False Door EG02AA86jhp Saqqara Ancient Egypt mastaba Khenu false door plaque offering hieroglyphs is located by the causeway and near Pyramid of Unas on the southwest corner near the Step Pyramid and associated with what was the smallest of the pyramids built belonged to Unas, the last King of the 5th Dynasty around 2345BC. There are several other mastabas near the causeway and behind this small one is a large one dedicated to the Queen’s of Unas Khenut and Nebet. Khenu was the son of Nefer, the Inspector of artisans and singers. I could find little information about Khenu and in several reference books/guide books his mastaba is not mentioned. I understand he had two sons called Ihy and Simoenas, one of which appears in the carvings and his mastaba has an excellent example of a false door. There are several cartouches for the King Unas indicating that Khenu and his father served during this period. Banff Strike Wing Plaque TO4360683JHP Banff Strike Wing memorial situated in a special lay-by in view of the old Boyndie Airfield which is now a wind turbine farm to the south of Banff in Aberdeenshire. Situated on high ground above the Moray Firth the Mosquito and Beaufighter Squadrons attacked German shipping and submarines in the last year of the war to great effect and this memorial remembers their courage and sacrifice during 1944 and 1945. Castle Fraser qwe3413jhp Castle Fraser Scottish Aberdeenshire facade coat arms plaque stones granite a National Trust Scotland property dating from between 1575 and 1636 is the “most elaborate z-plan castle” in existence in Scotland today and was the work of two master masons or builders called Bell and Leiper. The tower house is one of the finest examples of the period and some of the original wall paintings still survive. This building is situated about 16 miles west of Aberdeen and is open to the public all the year round. Linn of Dee xcv7993jhp Linn Dee Bridge opening plaque Victoria Deeside Glen Aberdeenshire Scotland dramatic dangerous bridge is as far west as the metal road goes in Glen Dee and the Linn is a popular visiting place because of the dangerous and spectacular nature of the river crashing though this narrow cleft in the granite rocks. A public carpark nearby is ideal parking for walkers heading north into the Cairngorms or westwards past the Chest of Dee into Glen Tilt and on to Blair Atholl or doubling back taking the metalled road to its end at the Quoich past the back of Mar Lodge and as far as the new National Trust for Scotland carpark. Bridge opened in September 1957 although the last digit is missing off the bridge, replacing a wooden one constructed in 1830; before that a mere plank of wood to cross by.
