Most of the photos are from the Tutankahum exhibits while the rest are items that interested me as I explored this wonderful and extensive collection, requiring many more hours if not days and is only hinted at during the usual one or two hour visit made on a package tour. Karnak Standing Statues EG074952jhp Karnak Temple Egyptian Figures Standing Amun Amaunet Sixth Pylon Court near the most sacred part of this huge sprawling site located near Luxor City centre on the East Bank of the River Nile and Karnak is the largest religious complex on the Nile. This photo is situated near the sixth pylon on the outer wall of the inner sanctum at the entrance door into the court and towards the Sanctuary of Philip Arrhidaeus. The two standing red snadstone figures are the God Amun and his consort based at Karnak called Amunet or Amaunet. These statues were destroyed in antiquity for certainly that of Amauet was thought lost for ever but pieces have been retrieved in both cases and the statues partially restored. Anubis in Pieces EG051912JHP Temple Merneptah Huge Limestone Anubis Carving Fragmented Photograph Luxor West Bank, an Egyptian Pharaoh who reigned around 1212-1202BC, is on the West Bank of the Nile at Luxor and was recently opened not long before these photos were taken in 2005. It is a mixture of open air and covered museum exhibits with some remains of the temple area with column bases. Some of the coloured wall reliefs are exquisite and because of the natural light available were easily photographed despite being inside. There is also a replica of the famous Israeli Stele, the original being in the Cairo Museum. This is a visit that would have to made outwith the usual West Bank package tour although easily arranged and is easily found next to the Ramasseum. H Tree Finzean bnm4263jhp H Tree branch Finzean road Feughside interesting Deeside pine tree natural on the Finzean to Forest Birse road with its wide coverage of silver birch trees a popular drive and picnic area to the westwards into Aberdeenshire. It follows the course of the River Feugh which flows into the River Dee at Banchory but the upper end starting at Finzean is famous for its connection to the snow and sheep painter Joseph Farquharson whose estate and home was located there. Bearing right from Finzean this road crosses to Aboyne and Deeside via Ballogie. This tree I remember as a child over 50 years ago as being a Henderson my father showed it to the family on our car trips to picnics in the Forest of Birse and of course explained it was nature recognising our surname. Not sure if it was a deliberate act or just natural piece of luck and it is shame to see the right hand tree trunk appears to be dying. Deeside Autumn vbn1492jhp Potarch Bridge River Dee Aberdeenshire Scotland Deeside autumn colours on Royal Deeside from the Potarch Bridge at this well known crossing point over the river from the North Deeside Road between Banchory and Kincardine O’Neil for heading eastwards to Feughside up this Road via the Shooting Greens and past Slewdrum Community owned woodland or south to join the southern route from Aboyne to Finzean. In the summer the riverbank can be mobbed with picnickers and swimmers while it is also a popular salmon fishing stretch and the narrow turbulent water good for canoeing. This stretch of the Deeside Way has been recently completed and adds another piece to the public footpath network running from Aberdeen west along Deeside to Ballater.
