The Botanical Gardens are a pleasant relaxing visit with walks though tree covered paths, splashes of colourful flowers, wild birds and the occasional cat by places to sit and the usual rest house at the main disembarking area when the visit is completed. Grounds are normally open all year round. Example of the best in Scottish Baronial architecture, dating from 1626, and is unspoiled since being relinquished to the NTS by the Forbes-Sempill family. Granted to the Irvine family by Robert the Bruce has been under their care from 1323 to 1976, including Forest of Drum, a royal hunting park and the Old Wood with ancient oaks, geans and Caledonian Pines. Forres Springtime wtn2138jhp Forres Moray Scottish Spring Mosset Burn Crimea obelisk Thomson daffodils commemorating the work of a Scottish Doctor who died at the Battle of Alma in 1854. The obelisk is made of Peterhead Granite and stands 50 foot high and is surrounded in the springtime with pink and white cherry blossom. In the summer the town, this ancient Royal Burgh with a charter dating back to 1496 and perhaps even earlier is adorned with a famous park of hedge sculptures and extensive floral displays in its sunken garden making this a popular place for visitors. The town dating to ancient times lies to the east of the River Findhorn and the Burn of Mosset also offers an additional water feature. It alos has the Nelson Tower the first monument in Britain celebrating Nelson’s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. To the east of the town is the stone cross-slab obelisk called the Sueno Stone, recording the victory of the Picts over the Danes in 1014AD.
