Kom Ombo Pylon EG02456JHP Kom Ombo Ancient Egypt Temple Pylon Carved Blue Sky Perspective Upwards on the River Nile just north of Aswan and a regular visit on all Nile Cruises, was principally built by Ptolemy V of Silsilah sandstone. Dedicated to two Gods – Sobek, the crocodile and Horus, the falcon and although it has been damaged over the years, mainly through slipping into the River Nile and some structural damage owing to earthquakes, there are still some wonderful colourful reliefs of the most detailed and delicate style. Luxor Ramose Tomb EG9622210jhp Ancient Egypt Noble Ramose Tomb Relief women beautiful banquet guests flowers, one of many beautiful tomb decorations amongst the Tombs of the Nobles on the West Bank of the River Nile at Luxor. Ramose Tomb-Chapel in the Lower Enclosure [Tomb 55] was a Vizier and Governor towards the end of the reign of Amenhotep 111 and beginning of the Amarna period of Akhenaten and this is reflected in the change of style of the reliefs in his tomb. This was the first Tomb of the Nobles I visited in 1994 and I have noticed a fading of the coloured funerary procession frieze in the top left-hand corner since then. The area around the Tombs, especially the approach to Ramose, has now been greatly improved with removal of many of the old modern houses and entry to these fascinating burial sites made more accessible. Most notable are the remaining granite columns still standing and are the best preserved in Egypt of this style of monument. This is situated outside the enclosure walls of the Temple of Thoth part of the ancient capital of Unu, Khmunu or the Greek Hermopolis Magna now known as el Ashmunein. Tanis Panorama EG077298JHP Tanis Royal Tombs Necropolis Site Panorama Amun Temple Khonsu Egypt Delta Site in Northern Egypt once thought to be the capital created by Ramses but was the capital of the 24th Nome of Lower Egypt and important in the late Egyptian period. This photo gives a wide perspective of the main Tanis site above the Royal Tombs looking across the Amun Temple of Ramses and the smaller temple dedicated to Khonsu- Neferhotep. Has Ramesside Temple of Amun with other temples from reigns of Osorkon, Sheshonq and Ptolemy but of special interest are the Royal Tombs where that of Psusennes in particular was intact and gave up one of the richest burial good collections, apart from Tutankhamun, with its famous silver coffin, now in the Cairo Museum. A visit to Tanis is usually by private means but can be incorporated with a day trip through the Delta visiting Heliopolis and Tell Basta but does involve considerable motoring. Philae First Pylon EG02530JHP Philae Egyptian Temple First Pylon Gate Angled Photo Perspective Frontage home of the Goddess Isis was established late in the history of Egypt being mainly Ptolemaic, eventually closing as a religious site around 550AD and being located on an island had remained remarkably untouched. Being relocated onto the Island of Agilkia on the River Nile near Aswan, to save it being flooded after the completion of the High Dam, it is perhaps one of the loveliest and most complete classic Egyptian temples to visit with a peaceful spirituality lacking in many of the land based sites. The range of clouds includes cirrus, storm clouds, white puffy fair weather clouds, monster cloud formations, haar, sun beams, lenticular, mama, a wide range of different meteorological structures and types.
Winter-Dawn-Aberdeenshire-wsc1513jhp Scotland Aberdeenshire winter dawn rich red colours clouds shapes Deeside hilltop colourful looking from Ord Fundlie to Beltie, Hill Fare, and Glassel near Torphins in Aberdeenshire, North East Scotland about 25 miles west of Aberdeen. Often the shapes and range and vibrancy of the colours defies descriptions and can only be seen to be believed; my experience is that the colourful phase only lasts for at most 20 minutes so it is often being in the right place at the right time and best photographed using a tripod as the very low light levels mean longer exposures especially at best quality ISO settings and overall sharp apertures. This portrait style photo was taken on 22 January, 2022 at 8.30hrs UT looking Eastwards. The most colourful period only lasts a few minutes so it is very much being in the right place at the best time but it helps having a forest or nice river scene on the doorstep but with a major mountain range to the west of Deeside, often the sun setting behind them or a large bank of rain cloud kills off the best of any last minute colour. The biggest problem with sunsets are they can take longer from the start of colourful clouds through to the more subtle final reds but every evening the shapes and nature of the clouds and light is different. This view was taken on the 8th July, 2022 at 21.13 hrs UT.
