Court Pylons Wall Reliefs Karnak Temple doorway eighth pylon Roy-Rome priests on the walls in the Court between the seventh and eighth pylons around the doorway into the staircase on the east wing of the Eighth Pylon. On the door lintel are mirror versions of the same person, Roy-Rome, a long serving High Priest to Amun with arms raised in praise but to where a cartouche, now hacked out, would have been. The figures on the right are two priests in linen robes, one of Roy-Rome, the other his son Beknekhonsu offering praise is an extensive area of text which refers to Seti 11. Ramasseum Pylon First Court Person scale figure Egyptian Luxor Thebes, situated at this West Bank location of the Nile at Luxor is Ramses 11 mortuary temple glowing in the late afternoon sunlight and in these photos the remains of the enormous First Pylon, now badly ruined and with the gate blocked up to maintain some structural stability. These are taken from inside the first court looking at its north face with some standard Ramasses propaganda carvings of Battle of Kadesh scenes and to the SE side of the court are the remains of the colonnaded Palace where the Pharaoh would have stayed for the important Festivals and ceremonies he was bound to attend.

Ramasseum Osiride Statues Fallen Ramses Statue Person Scale Luxor Egypt, situated at this West Bank location of the Nile at Luxor is Ramses 11 mortuary temple with its huge engaged Osiris statues of the pharaoh and on the right is the fallen seated granite statue of Ramses and a head that supposedly inspired Shelley's poem of Ozymandias. A friend stands to give a sense of the scale of this monuments.

Egypt Egyptian Luxor Tutankhamun Theban hill mountain Valley King Tomb entrance stairs looking into one of the most visited places in the world probably and certainly in Egypt beneath the Theban mountain on the West Bank of the River Nile at Luxor famous for some of the most important Royal burials of this ancient civilisation and this one if the most famous. It is in some ways relatively disappointing as against some of those larger tombs with long descending tunnels, descending rapidly into something akin to a concrete garage with only the one room decorated and containing a coffin under a glass cover in which the boy king's remains lie. It is busy tomb despite costing extra and in which photography is not allowed-absolutely! Although I suspect a few mobile phone photos have been taken these days-in 1994 my first and only visit all cameras had to be left at the entrance. I am surprised now at how I was able to take this photo without a person in site-usually this entrance area is packed solid with visitors.

Kinneff Old Church autumn sunshine tombstones Mearns Aberdeenshire sea Scotland history Crown Jewels has its famous claim to Scottish History as the hiding place for eight years of the Scottish Regalia spirited away by Mrs Grainger, the Minister wife, from Dunnottar Castle. They were saved thus from the clutches of Cromwell’s troops in 1652 during the siege of the castle when his troops were attacking the Scottish Royalist troops loyal to Charles 11. The current church was rebuilt in 1738 on the site of the original one consecrated in 1242. The North aisle and staircase were added in 1876. The bell dates from 1679 and came from Rotterdam. 17th century wall tablets in the church commemorate Sir George Ogilvy of Barras who was Governor of Dunnottar Castle during the siege and who organised the smuggling of the regalia out of the castle. On a personal note, I had the privilege of photographing a re-enactment of what is thought to be how it was done for the current coloured version of the Dunnottar Castle Guidebook.

Old Brig River Dee Invercauld Deeside Scotland summer heather stormy clouds is cared for by Historic Scotland and is one of the many military bridges built after the Forty Five Rebellion and that carried troops across the Highlands. This was built by Major Caulfield 1752 although often called a General Wade bridge, the person who started the process many years earlier. The bridge is located just east of Braemar and this view is from eastern side of the bridge, looking upstream with the summer heather purple and although catching the sunlight the background is dark and stormy. NB This was taken with a non-digital lens and may need extra sharpening.
