Hatshepsut Temple Entrance walk approach cliffs overhanging Luxor Egypt photograph Upper central court was opened again in 2002 and makes the visit to this magificent temple almost complete except that entrance into the burial chmaber itself is restricted, here with the whole temple viewed from the main approach. This magnificent mortuary temple is located on the West Bank of the River Nile at Luxor at an area called Deir el-Bahri and built into the base of the cliffs of the Theban Hill behind which are branches of the Valley of the Kings.

Kintore Town House Donside Scotland summer flower display street overhanging colourful centre passed situated on the River Don but now bypassed on the main Aberdeen Huntly road before reaching Thainstone and Inverurie. It is a town with a long historical importance with its Burgh claim dating to Kenneth 11 although no actual document exists. The Town House in this photo dates from 1737 and took ten years to build under the charge of the Earl of Kintore. Adjacent to the flat floodplain for the river there is evidence of ancient occupation with a recently excavated Stone Circle on Truach Hill supporting this.

Bennachie Hill yellow crop Pitfichie overhanging tree framed Aberdeenshire Scottish Donside in the North East with a view from road looking northwards to Bennachie on the Chapel Garioch road which goes through to Monymusk via Blairdaff. In the centre is Pitfichie Castle and Farm with old ash trees bordering the road which one takes the right hand turn at the crossroads and crosses the road bridge over the River Don before heading either over the eastern limb of Bennachie or bearing right for Kemnay.

Crathes Castle Scottish reflection trees overhanging oak leaves water artificial lake at the entrance to the main drive of this historic property which building dates from the 16th century although the land belonged to the Burnett’s of Leys as a gift from Robert the Bruce in 1323. In the great hall is the Horn of Leys, supposedly a symbol of this grant. The tower house is one of the finest examples of the period and some of the original wall paintings still survive. There are extensive gardens including a walled garden and croquet lawn, with many activities for children, woodland walks, shop and restaurant.

Glenbuchat Castle Approach Carpark Entrance Outline Hills Tree Branch Overhanging but is a mock military house built in 1590 and although of no great historical note has some fine examples of local masons workmanship with a feel of â€˜solid grace and comfortable displayâ€™ and evidence of lavish interior expenditure with high quality interior ashlar work.

As this is a Historic Scotland property the photograph should be used for editorial, scenic or tourist related use. The property is accessed off the A97 Ballater/Huntly road and is open all the year round and is an unmanned property at which no entrance fee is applicable. Continuing along this road in the direction of Huntly Kildrummy Castle is the next property visited.

Forres Moray Scottish Spring Mosset Burn Crimea obelisk Thomson daffodils commemorating the work of a Scottish Doctor who died at the Battle of Alma in 1854. The obelisk is made of Peterhead Granite and stands 50 foot high and is surrounded in the springtime with pink and white cherry blossom. In the summer the town, this ancient Royal Burgh with a charter dating back to 1496 and perhaps even earlier is adorned with a famous park of hedge sculptures and extensive floral displays in its sunken garden making this a popular place for visitors. The town dating to ancient times lies to the east of the River Findhorn and the Burn of Mosset also offers an additional water feature. It alos has the Nelson Tower the first monument in Britain celebrating Nelson’s victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. To the east of the town is the stone cross-slab obelisk called the Sueno Stone, recording the victory of the Picts over the Danes in 1014AD.
