In the summer the riverbank can be mobbed with picnickers and swimmers while it is also a popular salmon fishing stretch and the narrow turbulent water good for canoeing. This stretch of the Deeside Way has been recently completed and adds another piece to the public footpath network running from Aberdeen west along Deeside to Ballater. This was built by Major Caulfield 1752 although often called a General Wade bridge who started the process many years earlier.
