It is not usually part of the standard tour package so has to be entered ‘privately’ and an additional ticket purchased on entry, accessed from the First Forecourt through the eastern gate past the famous standing statue of Ramses 11. Passing through an area full of stored blocks rescued from other parts of the Karnak site, you can view restored chapels including such as an Amenhotep 1 alabaster barque chapel, the exquisite White Chapel of Senwosret 1, the Chapelle Rouge of Hatshepsut and a recent large addition is the reconstruction of Thutmosis IV [Thutmose] temple for a quiet, contemplative and beautiful experience to the busy main Karnak tour. Bani Hassan Rock Tombs 6145EG07JHP Bani Hassan Rocky Bluff Thirty Nine Rock Cut Tombs Cliff High Up Steps Climb along the face of a bluff above the River Nile some 20km south of Minya makes this a special visiting place for its decorations along the themes of wrestling, battle scenes and the collection of taxes by the nomarchs of the Oryx Nome give some beautiful tomb paintings to view - unfortunately photography was absolutely refused when I visited. The climb to the tomb-chapels is a steep 80 metre climb and although the steps are modern it is not for the faint hearted during the heat of the Egyptian summer. No longer used for public access to opposite bank but still an attractive single arch of 70 foot height illustrating the building skills of earlier times. It is situated between the Lonach Gathering park, near Candacraig and Bellabeg with its historic Motte and the entrances to Lost and Glenbuchat in the heart of Upper Donside.
