 Fetternear House Kemnay ruin front coat arms panel carved Leslie Aberdeenshire Scotland shell towers front castellated historical building located near Kemnay near the River Don which was gutted by a fire in 1919 and has remained a shell ever since. The location has had a history going back for over 800 years, there was a medieval Palace for the Bishop’s of Aberdeen, which was located to the south of the present house in the photograph. SEPP have carried out excavations of the site finding considerable evidence of the early palace. The current house dates from around 1566 after it was acquired by the Leslies of Balquhain although from a small tower originally it has expanded to the present façade in 1818. The carved panel above the main entrance is attributed to Count Patrick Leslie around 1690. Although it is accessible to view it is in a dangerous state of disrepair and is fenced off from public access.
