The Pharaoh, Middle Kingdom c1800BC was not buried in the pyramid [in Hawara] but two of his wives were and their remains were found by Dieter Arnold in 1976-83. The beautiful pyramidion in black gray granite, possibly never set in place, is in the Cairo Museum. The pyramid is one of several still standing at the Dashur necropolis although over shadowed by the more famous and probably oldest Bent, the slightly later Red or North pyramid visible in distance as well as others more ruined which were built towards the end of the pyramid era. The Pharaoh, Middle Kingdom c1800BC was not buried in the pyramid [in Hawara] but two of his wives were and their remains were found by Dieter Arnold in 1976-83. The beautiful pyramidion in black gray granite, possibly never set in place, is in the Cairo Museum. The pyramid is one of several still standing at the Dashur necropolis although over shadowed by the more famous and probably oldest Bent, the slightly later Red pyramid as well as others more ruined which were built towards the end of the pyramid era. Deeside Sunset bnm4588jhp Scotland evening sunset yellow gray colours mixed clouds rich Deeside Aberdeenshire Kincardine O誰eil is some 25 miles west of Aberdeen in North East Scotland. So far this summer, 2018, there have not been many colourful sunsets despite some of the warmest weather for many a year. The most dramatic and vibrant period only lasts a few minutes so it is very much being in the right place at the best time but it helps having a forest or nice river scene on the doorstep but with a major mountain range to the west of Deeside, often the sun setting behind them or a large bank of rain cloud kills off the best of any last minute colour. The biggest problem with summer sunsets are they can take longer from the start of colourful clouds through to the more subtle final reds and in that time you are an open meal ticket for the notorious Scottish midges but every evening the shapes and nature of the clouds and light is different. This one was taken on the 12th August, 2016 while there is a further selection taken on the 24th. The shapes, size and often awesome sense of power of clouds and often couple with rain storms and rainbows make them a subject I enjoy photographing and are a truer reflection perhaps of the great mix of weather and light we have in the North East of Scotland, this one looking towards Torphins and the Hill of Fare not visible behind the storm clouds.
