Very low artificial light makes general photography difficult as well as affecting accurate colour balance. This now appears to be the only museum in Egypt where photography is still allowed although it is not easy as the ambient lighting is extremely subdued for conservation reasons. Karnak Carved Wall EG074950jhp Karnak Temple Egyptian Sanctuary Wall Tuthmose Maat Palace Carving obelisk near the most sacred part of this huge sprawling site located near Luxor City centre on the East Bank of the River Nile and Karnak is the largest religious complex on the Nile. This photo is situated near the sixth pylon on the outer wall of the inner sanctum around various chapels and shrines attributed to Amenhotep, Hatshepsut and Thutmose 111 leading to the central court area but this outer wall has important offering scnes and texts relating to Tuthmose's military campaigns into Syria and Palestine. Captured on this wall is Tuthmose offering gists to Amun such as two obelisks which had their pyramidions coverd in electrum but were eventually removed. This wall is described as the Palace of Ma'at on the UCLA Karnak website but not mentioned as such in either the Blue Book, Murnane or the touregypt sites. Just visible is the top of the obleisk of Hatshepsut. Luxor Gold of Honour Bearer EG962097JHP Museum Luxor Exhibit Photograph Honor Carving Egyptian Man Statue Beads was taken inside this modern building on the waterfront of the River Nile with its fascinating collection covering the extensive history of ancient Egypt including items from the Tomb of Tutankahum. This particular exhibit dates from around 1400 BC recording the yellow beaded necklace symbolising a recognition of valor by a courtier or soldier and is in the museum proper and was taken in 1996 when you could pay to take photographs but not use a tripod, now not allowed at all, and I used Kodak 5042 Tungsten Slide film which still meant hand holding was at the extremes of useful photography in low light conditions. Rekhmire Tomb Painting EG075690JHP Rekhmire Tomb Painting Luxor Egyptian Workers Tradesmen Carpenters Daily Life Scenes, one of many beautiful tomb decorations amongst the Tombs of the Nobles on the West Bank of the River Nile at Luxor. Rekhmire Tomb-Chapel [Tomb 100] was a Vizier during the reigns of Tuthmosis 11 and Amenhotep 11, part of a family with long service as administrators at Thebes. This highly decorated cruciform tomb is full images giving great understanding of Egyptian foreign policy, taxation and the justice system. The area around the Tombs has now been greatly improved with removal of many of the old modern houses and entry to these fascinating burial sites made more accessible. This is the covering for a mummy and in the style of many such Late Period mummified coverings with gold plating or polychrome cartonnage giving it surprising richness. It is difficult to avoid reflections in the glass especially as access to take photographs is restricted, tripods and flash is banned and I understand that since I visited there has been an overall photography ban applied. Nacreous-Clouds-wsc7029jhp British Grampian Nacreous clouds forest West vibrant colourful iridescent PSCs rare winter event taken on the afternoon of 24th December, 2023 at Crooktree, 25 miles west of Aberdeen, at 16.10hrsUT and was discovered by accident during extremely strong gusty winds looking Westwards over Ord Fundlie forest and was the last photo taken. These iridescent clouds are high altitude cirriform lenticular polar stratospheric, type 11 events, a rare winter sighting caused by twilight sunlight diffracted off ice crystals or water droplets with nitric or sulphuric acid content; sometimes called Mother of Pearl clouds because of the nature of the colour effect. This photograph was taken with a Nikon D700 full frame DSLR using a 28-300mm AF-S Nikkor ED zoom lens at f11 aperture, 78mm focal length, 1600 ISO with exposure of 1/25th second.
