Demi Bastion Northwards qwe8520jhp Fort George Marlborough demi-bastion canon Highland sea Black Isle seacoast is located near Ardersier and the public access is organised by Historic Scotland although it is an active military base here with this dramatic view of the Moray firth from Duke of Marlborough's demi-bastion on North West corner of the fortress. A very large complex of moats, bastions and buildings with spectacular outlooks to the surrounding sea and countryside it is well preserved historical site and fine example of military construction and it should be as probably the most expensive military fortification built in the Britain. Completed in 1796 and in the context of Scottish history, it appears more a statement of political empowerment to thwart any ambitions of the Highlanders towards future sedition rather than dealing with any likely military threat. Photographs taken in the mid 90's mainly for the AA Publishing & Ordnance Survey Highland and Islands Guide book using transparency film covering the Highlands of Scotland from Inverness, northwards through Easter Ross to Wick and Thurso, along the Northern Coast, down the West Coast, including the Islands of Skye and Mull. Other material included was gathered for other AA Publishing Guides including Shetland, Pitlochry and Tayside. New photographs are now included from 2012 book commission travels in Angus, Perth, Kinross, Trossachs and Tayside.
