Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights displays photographed taken over Aberdeeshire in Scotland since 1989 covering some 350 events with arc, rays, coronas with a wide rnage of shapes and colours

Aurora Borealis Folding Arc rays Crathes Deeside Scotland Northern Lights taken near midnight on the 1st May, 1990 at the Ley near Crathes just to the east of banchory on Royal Deeside some 18 miles west of Aberdeen. After an very busy night of displays this renewed arc became active and started to bend and snake with rays climbing from it and giving the illusion of large floating curtains. The colour was mainly from nitrogen giving the mauve hue and the display continued until dawn light around 3.00am started to drown it out. Fuji slide film pushed processed to 1600asa and taken with a Nikon FM2 body and 28mm Nikkor f2.8 lens with an exposure around 15-20 seconds.

Necropolis Tomb Isadora Mummy Ancient Egyptian Desert Minya Tuna el-Gebel is City of the Dead with various chapels, temples, and this is the slightly morbid Tomb of Isodora a young woman who was drowned and whose mummy is on show inside. There are also catacombs for animal mummies and many more which are still buried and unexcavated under the desert sands. The site is centred on a Temple of Thoth, badly ruined, dating from Ramesside through to Roman times and was a place of pilgrimage so there are buildings for accommodation as well and remains of a Roman water wheel obtaining its water from a deep well. Near to the cemetery is the northern boundary stela of Akhenaten which can be visited after a short low grade climb up steps where it is protected from the elements behind a Perspex screen.

Linn Dee Gorge Rocks Steep Wet Slippery Drowning Braemar Scotland Winter is far west as the metal road goes in Glen Dee is a popular visiting place because of the dangerous and spectacular nature of the river crashing though this narrow cleft in the granite rocks. A public carpark nearby is ideal parking for walkers heading north into the Cairngorms or westwards past the Chest of Dee into Glen Tilt and on to Blair Atholl or taking the metalled road to its end at the Quoich past the back of Mar Lodge.
