Portsoy Harbour vr0440jhp Portsoy traditional Aberdeenshire coastal fishing village boat yacht harbour summer located by the Moray Firth and famous for local serpentine stone or marble and its annual small boat festival illustrated in this photo, the village lies between Banff and Cullen and is a popular stopover especially on summer weekends. It has a small caravan park in the next easterly bay to the harbour and with traditional 17th century period is an important part of the Coastal Trail and the history of the early fishing industry in the North east of Scotland. Fyvie Castle Scotland VR0333JHP Seton Tower Centre South Face Photograph Scottish Fyvie Castle Fort Aberdeenshire which is a National Trust for Scotland property is situated 25 miles NW of Aberdeen on the Oldmeldrum to Turriff road [A947] and is open to the public from April to end of September and the grounds are normally open all year round. Once a royal stronghold in medieval Scotland, its dates from around 1390 and is one of the finest examples of the Scottish Baronial style. A tradition throughout its ruling families means there are five towers for each family and sumptuous interiors from the 13th century to the Edwardian era are all on show. Landscaped parkland and a redeveloped 18th century walled garden as also on offer. Please contact their Edinburgh Head Office at Wemyss House, 28 Charlotte Square, Edinburgh, EH2 4ET. This is a National Trust for Scotland property situated about 15 miles west of Aberdeen and is open to the public all the year round. This building dates from the 16th century although the land belonged to the Burnett’s of Leys as a gift from Robert the Bruce in 1323. In the great hall is the Horn of Leys, supposedly a symbol of this grant. The tower house is one of the finest examples of the period and some of the original wall paintings still survive. Buckie Harbour vr0572jhp Buckie Morayshire summer Moray Scotland North East coast harbour RNLI lifeboat anchored is one of the largest Morayshire towns facing Moray Firth on the northern coast of North East Scotland with small operational fishing harbour, fish market, boat building and featured on the Fishing heritage Trail. Made up of several distinct communities it extends some 3 miles along the coast but is never more than 1 mile inland and as it never actually touches the busy A98 main coast road it remains a quieter than normal town. An earlier small harbour at Buckpool, dating from 1857, but rapidly became outdated and now on longer exists but the more modern Cluny harbour dating from 1880 still operates and is one of the finest on the North East Coast.
