Donside Towie up481672jhp Donside River Don Chapel Towie Aberdeenshire Scottish summer broom clouds yellow blossom an attractive part of Upper Donside between the Muir of Fowlis and Towie looking across the farmland by the River Don towards Strathdon. This is taken from the back road running to the south of the River from the Hillockhead/Chapel of Towie heading east to Milltown of Towie village itself and eventually crossing the River Don at Glenkindie. This is one of my favourite views of the river although the broom has seen better days. The Church of St Nathalan dating from the late 1700’s possibly on an early site founded in 450AD by St Nathalan with records from the 12th Century indicating ownership to Arbroath Abbey. In the grounds is a mort house. About ¼ mile to the south was the location of Coull Castle, a substantial fortress in the early 13th Century, of which nothing remains today. Continuing up the single lane road northwards brings you to the Slack of Tillylodge and the Queen’s viewpoint with spectacular views over Deeside towards Morven and the distant outline of Lochnagar Britain’s fourth highest mountain. Covesea View to Cromarty qwe7294jhp Covesea seashore cliffs tower Moray Firth sea rocks Cromarty Scotland between Lossiemouth Hopeman trail clifftop walk Scotland offering some beautiful views over the Moray Firth to the Black Isle and Cromarty but is a demanding exercise only possible at low tide if you choose the lower route. A marked clifftop trail makes the journey between Covesea and Hopetown easier with some spectacular views and plenty of marine birdlife. Along this stretch of the coast is a cave called the Sculptors Cave with Pictish carvings showing the ancient attraction of this coastline reinforced with the importance of nearby Burghead, the site of a major Pictish fort and harbour.
