Donside Towie up481672jhp Donside River Don Chapel Towie Aberdeenshire Scottish summer broom clouds yellow blossom an attractive part of Upper Donside between the Muir of Fowlis and Towie looking across the farmland by the River Don towards Strathdon. This is taken from the back road running to the south of the River from the Hillockhead/Chapel of Towie heading east to Milltown of Towie village itself and eventually crossing the River Don at Glenkindie. This is one of my favourite views of the river although the broom has seen better days. Glen Gairn Lecht Road qwe8411jhp Glen Gairn road Gairnsheil hill heather ruined croft Aberdeenshire Scotland is one of the main routes northwards venturing over the Lecht to Inverness, via Tomintoul and Granton on Spey. The Lecht ski centre is also one of the busiest centres on the south side of the Cairngorms during Scotland’s often ill-defined and variable winter season but during the summer months is a favourite route with the famous humpbacked single track bridge at Gairnsheil, the purple flowering heather moorland between there and Cock Bridge, past Corgarff Castle and then after Tomintoul, the Bridge of Brown, after passing through Glen Avon. Lying to the north of the River Dee it is a popular tourist centre for visitors travelling the length of this beautiful valley going southwards to Perth, visiting Balmoral Castle or Crathie Kirk or as a stopover before venturing northwards over the Lecht to Inverness. Looking across this valley from this point to the ruins of Tullich Kirk one of the oldest Christian Churches on Deeside which is beside the North Deeside Road. Just to the right of centre poking above the trees is the top of an obelisk of Aberdeen granite in memoery of William Farquharson of Monaltrie who died in 1828-erected by his widow. This is one shortcut I use, passing Cushnie Forest, passing Elphhillock and Hillockhead on the Chapel of Towie Road and then cutting across to Mill of Brux to cross the River Don to reach Milltown of Kildrummy. I use this cross country route when heading northwards to Huntly from Torphins/Lumphanan, passing Craigievar Castle and then heading towards Donside from the Muir of Fowlis instead of heading for Alford and joining the Huntly road at Mossat. This is one shortcut I use, taking the right turn at Cushnie Forest, when heading northwards to Huntly from Torphins/Lumphanan, passing Craigievar Castle and then heading towards Donside from the Muir of Fowlis instead of heading for Alford and joining the Huntly road at Mossat. The Lecht ski centre is also one of the busiest centres on the south side of the Cairngorms during Scotland’s often ill-defined and variable winter season but during the summer months is a favourite route with the famous humpbacked single track bridge at Gairnsheil, the purple flowering heather moorland between there and Cock Bridge, past Corgarff Castle and then after Tomintoul, the Bridge of Brown, after passing through Glen Avon. In the centre of this photo is Tom Anthon hill & Carn Mor with Corriemulzie below the snow covered croft while not in this but off to the right over the road is the River Dee floodplain and the new Mar Lodge while off to the left beyond this hill are the Glens of Ey and beyond the Tilt and to the extrme right would be the Linn of Quoich with its famous Punch Bowl rock formation and the main hillwalking start for Beinn A’Bhuird in the Grampian Mountains.
