Photographs in this gallery show daily life along the River Nile mainly from the cruises I have undertaken over the past 10 years or so. Sites that border the Nile are included although the major temples visted have their own dedicated sites such as Edfu and Kom Ombo. One of the enjoyments of the Nile cruise is the tranquility of watching 'life go by' usually characterised by the friendliness of those you pass whether boatmen or farm workers as well as seeing wild birds close at hand. The other aspect is the service on the cruiseboats from friendly crews and the chance to relax after hectic and often crowded temple visits.

Nubian Mosque EG052598JHP Seheil Island Aswan Egypt Nubian Village Mosque Dome Crescent colourful with its genuine sense of colour and distinctive desert shapes for buildings that remain cool in the heat of southern Egypt on this island near Aswan amongst the River Nile cataracts. The main reason for this private excursion by motorboat was to visit the rock carvings which cover this boulder strewn part of the Nile recording many events throughout the ancient history of the Egyptian Empire spanning some 3000 years. Valley Kings EG0213049jhp Egypt Luxor Tomb KV19 Prince Mentuherkhepshef Khonsu Solar Disk Crescent painting colour was son of Ramasses 1X, but his tomb was unfinished but has some excellent colourful depictions of the important ancient Egyptian Gods and although protected by Perspex panels, the custodian was very helpful and slid them back for me to take photographs in 2002 when it was still allowed. Thanks to the capability of the modern digital camera, the first and only chance I have had to use one, a Fuji S2 as photography is now banned in the Valley of Kings per se and especially in the tombs. Adjustments in Photoshop give the chance of reasonably accurate colours even when the tomb paintings were lit by low level artificial light when tripods and flash were not allowed; what could I get with a Nikon F700 and a tripod, which were allowed at one time as well. Pictish Carvings Crichie Scotland TO187049JHP Pictish Carved Stone Broomend Crichie Beast Crescent Symbolism Aberdeenshire Scotland Photo shown here is a beautifully crafted and preserved carving dating from c600AD with beast and crescent is located in the centre of the Broomend of Crichie Ceremonial henge near Inverurie, north of Aberdeen in North East Scotland. It was relocated to the henge for safe keeping during Victorian times. The site has been recently excavated by Reading University and more cremated bones in complete urns have been found. Fyvie Castle Garden Scotland VR0357JHP Fyvie Castle Walled Garden Seat Ornament Crescent Shape Nude Sculpture Framed in this National Trust for Scotland property is situated 25 miles NW of Aberdeen on the Oldmeldrum to Turriff road [A947] and is open to the public from April to end of September and the grounds are normally open all year round. Once a royal stronghold in medieval Scotland, its dates from around 1390 and is one of the finest examples of the Scottish Baronial style. A tradition throughout its ruling families means there are five towers for each family and sumptuous interiors from the 13th century to the Edwardian era are all on show. Landscaped parkland and a redeveloped 18th century walled garden as also on offer.
