A carparking area is signed from the main coastal road just after leaving the junction for Sandend, west of Portsoy. The dovecot is easily accessible from the carpark at Barnyards Farm going off the path to the cliff top and access to Findlater Castle. The Dovecot is possibly 16th Century, about the time that Findlater Castle ceased to be used and would have been a food source. It is a circular stone built beehive shaped building with three tiers each defined by the rat or string course that gave a horizontal impediment to stop rats crawling up the outside to get access to the 700 nesting boxes inside. A carparking area is signed from the main coastal road just after leaving the junction for Sandend, west of Portsoy. The dovecot is easily accessible from the carpark at Barnyards Farm going off the path to the cliff top and access to Findlater Castle. The Dovecot is possibly 16th Century, about the time that Findlater Castle ceased to be used and would have been a food source. It is a circular stone built beehive shaped building with three tiers each defined by the rat or string course that gave a horizontal impediment to stop rats crawling up the outside to get access to the 700 nesting boxes inside.
