Bellabeg Lost wyy6103jhp Bellabeg motte Lost roadsign famous stolen Strathdon Scotland summer farm querky scene just to the west of Bellabeg village crossing the Nochty road bridge by the Spar Grocery store from the main Strathdon road. This roadsign to a farm of this name has been so famous that the council roadsign has disappeared on several occasions. Just to the west of this road is the impressive motte which can be seen from the road. A public carpark is opposite the motte, an ancient Pictish fort site in origin, later reinforced for the Earldom of Mar in the 1100,s but later redundant with the construction of Glenbuchat Castle further to the east and strategically placed above the other entrance to the Glen.The Doune of Invernochty is one of the largest such Norman castle motte痴 in Scotland and although making use of an existing glacial deposit the mound was shaped to large proportions and is thought to have included a high status chapel as well as the fortified structure. The surrounding ditch could have been flooded as remains of a man made lake whose eastern retaining bank can still be seen. Glenbuchat Spring asd6559jhp Glenbuchat Donside lower slopes dyke Ben Newe rural Scotland spring Aberdeenshire looking eastwards from the lower slopes of Ben Newe where this charming glen is accessed off the A939/A944/A97 Ballater/Huntly road just at the entrance to a Historic Scotland maintained castle by the same name. It is open all the year round and is an unmanned property at which no entrance fee is applicable but there is a small carpark. Views of the Glen are seen from the top of the Castle northwards. The Glen itself has a delightful old Kirk which was a favourite of HM The Queen Mother and the road loops round the top of the glen and a traveller can exit the glen at Bellabeg further west along the A944, a continuation of the A97 which forks nearby southwards to Dinnet.
