The ruin, probably originally a large four storey family house with little evidence of being a defensive fort in the usual manner seen around Aberdeenshire is thought to have been built in the 17th Century by the Clan Morrison around 1660. Auchindoir Church asd7299jhp St Mary's Church Auchindoir inside Gordon clan coat arms carvings Aberdeenshire summer Scotland ruin romantic is reached by taking first left turning after Lumsden on road to Rhynie and Huntly in North East Aberdeenshire near Morayshire. This is inside the church next to the elaborately carved Sacrament House now protected by a clear awning is this carved set of coat of arms above a tombstone lid bearing the Gordon Coat of Arms. This 13th Century building was later remodelled in 16th century, with a fine elaborately carved and detailed Scottish medieval door and inside it has a very beautiful sacrament house on the inside, styled like a monstrance and inserted in a lancet window. The backdrop is the spectacular Craig Burn Den or gorge with large woodland of mature beech trees. Auchindoun Castle vs2441jhp Auchindoun Castle ruined fort prominent hill top Mackalea sheep hills Dufftown Morayshire Scotland autumn walk with excellent views over Glen and the River Fiddich is located on a possible earlier Iron Age earthwork, built in the mid-1400's as a traditional L-shaped tower house was the centre of many clan feuds and much violence, burnt, restored and abandoned by 1725 now remains an eye catching Historic Scotland property on the Cabrach to Dufftown road, NJ 349 375. It is accessible by a public track after a steep climb from a signed layby and passes a farm house and outbuildings. This was the year after it was opened to the public after restoration and safety work has been carried and there was still some scaffolding standing on the south boundary wall. These photos were taken on the 20th September, 2008 on which a cloudy start turned into some glorious sunshine, blue skies and interesting clouds so made the walk up worthwhile. This was the year after it was opened to the public after restoration and safety work has been carried and there was still some scaffolding standing on the south boundary wall. These photos were taken on the 20th September, 2008 on which a cloudy start turned into some glorious sunshine, blue skies and interesting clouds so made the walk up worthwhile. Photographs taken in the mid 90's mainly for the AA Publishing & Ordnance Survey Highland and Islands Guide book using transparency film covering the Highlands of Scotland from Inverness, northwards through Easter Ross to Wick and Thurso, along the Northern Coast, down the West Coast, including the Islands of Skye and Mull. Other material included was gathered for other AA Publishing Guides including Shetland, Pitlochry and Tayside. New photographs are now included from 2012 book commission travels in Angus, Perth, Kinross, Trossachs and Tayside.
