It has a notable rare representation of the famous Cleopatra, some beautiful carvings and is relatively unscathed by the ravages of time, desecration and being dismantled for building materials. The photo is by the main entrance North Propylon gate alonside which is a small open air museum of various artefacts found on site inclduing this fascinating circular wheel-like granite slab with carvings of a pharoah [Thutmosis 111] and the God Amun. Tuna el-Gebel Well Shaft 6301EG07JHP Well Construction Circular Deep Downwards Roman Egyptian Pilgrims Tuna el-Gebel is City of the Dead with various chapels, temples and catacombs for animal mummies and many more which are still buried and unexcavated under the desert sands. The site is centred on a Temple of Thoth, badly ruined, dating from Ramesside through to Roman times and was a place of pilgrimage so there are buildings for accommodation as well and remains of a Roman water wheel obtaining its water from a deep well shown in this photograph. Near to the cemetery is the northern boundary stela of Akhenaten which can be visited after a short low grade climb up steps where it is protected from the elements behind a Perspex screen. Migvie Cross Slab jkl9308jhp Migvie Stone Cross-slab Christian symbol carved ancient Scottish relic stands in the kirkyard of Migvie Church and is easily accessible for the casual visitor. It is thought to date from the 9th century AD with a mixture of Pictish and early Christian symbols carved on gneiss stone, 2 metres high, similar to that at Kinord but held to be of inferior quality. The interlaced filled cross appears crudely squeezed into the stone but has interesting circular projections at the top, suggestive of something hanged. There are also iconic symbols carved into the angles of the cross, namely horseshoe, V-rod, double disc, Z-rod and a pair of shears as well as a horse and rider. Findlater Doocot vbn1273jhp Findlater Barnyards Dovecot doocot Aberdeenshire Scottish autumn turnips coast clouds restored sits above the cliffs above Findlater Castle and is located between Portsoy, Sandend and Cullen. A carparking area is signed from the main coastal road just after leaving the junction for Sandend, west of Portsoy. The dovecot is easily accessible from the carpark at Barnyards Farm going off the path to the cliff top and access to Findlater Castle. The Dovecot is possibly 16th Century, about the time that Findlater Castle ceased to be used and would have been a food source. It is a circular stone built beehive shaped building with three tiers each defined by the rat or string course that gave a horizontal impediment to stop rats crawling up the outside to get access to the 700 nesting boxes inside.
