Aswan Nubian Museum Centrepiece EG052931JHP Aswan Egyptian Nubian Museum main central area dominated by Ramses 11 Statue and giving a sense of the modern style of this building whose foundations were laid in 1986, opened in 1997 and organised through UNESCO. Very low artificial light makes general photography difficult as well as affecting accurate colour balance. This now appears to be the only museum in Egypt where photography is still allowed although it is not easy as the ambient lighting is extremely subdued for conservation reasons. Damaged by earthquakes some 2000 years ago as is seen in much of the structural damage today it is still fascinating with the excitement of finding beautiful carvings and examples of the craftsmanship of those ancient builders now hidden away amongst grass and a scatter field of damaged remnants from what was a huge cult site to the Cat Goddess Bastet visited by hundreds and thousands of pilgrims as recorded by Herodotus. Not usually part of normal Egyptian packages but can be visited privately and is part of an interesting day journey that should include Tanis as well. Aberdeen Kings College 197224jhp King's College Old side trees summer Aberdeen Scotland University Crown spire tower is the centrepiece of the University and is situated to the northern part of the modern city. Part of the City of Aberdeen, this northern area around the University was also a separate burgh and the focus for the oldest part of the city and especially its links with the University and the religious centre with St Machar's Cathedral Kirk nearby. This photograph was taken in 2002 the last year I used slide film, either 35mm or 645 as my main medium for landscape photography. They are still representative of the City despite their age and is chosen because of the lovely light and colours as it can still be on the right day although it has been more recently cleaned. In the great hall is the Horn of Leys, supposedly a symbol of this grant. The large urn is the centrepiece of this small garden tucked away at south east corner of the walled garden. The tower house is one of the finest examples of the period and some of the original wall paintings still survive. At the bottom of the walled garden, near the Red Garden is a Doocot an attractive feature and useful high point for looking up the June Border, the summer jewel resplendent with many colourful plants, with the Castle as its impressive backdrop.
