Hallforest Castle 186511JHP Hallforest Castle Scottish Ruin Keep Tower House Kemnay Kintore Aberdeenshire is one of few 14th Century keeps remaining in the North East and tradition is that it was built by Robert the Bruce as a hunting lodge. It was entered on the first floor by a ladder, the four floors for occupation and having embattlements has a degree of fortification. It was given to the Earl of Kintore by his father The Earl Marischal as a reward after the Battle of Bannockburn. It is now just an impressive ruin standing in the middle of a flat field adjacent top the Kintore to Kemnay road. Other material included was gathered for other AA Publishing Guides including Shetland, Pitlochry and Tayside. New photographs are now included from 2012 book commission travels in Angus, Perth, Kinross, Trossachs and Tayside.
