Images in this gallery relate to Aswan in southern Egypt covering the city, the River Nile and related sites except for more important places such as Philae, The Nubian Museum and Seheil Island Rock carvings.
Aswan Botanical Gardens EG052782jhp Egypt Aswan Plantation Island Botanical Gardens red flowers bulbous globular often visited on trips in feluccas to the Nubian Villages or Cataracts and the west bank with Aga Khan Mausoleum or camel rides into the desert to visit St Simeon monastery. The Botanical Gardens are a pleasant relaxing visit with walks though tree covered paths, splashes of colourful flowers, wild birds and the occasional cat by places to sit and the usual rest house at the main disembarking area when the visit is completed. Tut The Warrior EG01261JHP Egypt Museum Cairo displays lifelike figures King Tutankhamun warrior pose in his Tomb at Luxor in various poses and now in the prime antiquities collection in Cairo taken during visits between 1994 and 2001 when photography was allowed albeit without flash and tripod. None is of studio quality, being handheld with existing, usually extremely poor light and using slide film, pushed Fuji 400asa to get a suitable aperture and shutter speed. Most of the photos are from the Tutankahum exhibits while the rest are items that interested me as I explored this wonderful and extensive collection, requiring many more hours if not days and is only hinted at during the usual one or two hour visit made on a package tour. This was taken at 10.39hrs BST on 30th July 2023 from the North side of Ord Fundlie Hill using a Nikon D700 FX body with 28-300mm at 28mm focal length, aperture of F9, 200ISO and shutter speed of 1/1600 sec. Deeside Sunset fgh5965jhp Autumn sunset vortex bulbous clouds sun ray dramatic Aberdeenshire Scotland Kincardine O誰eil is some 25 miles west of Aberdeen in North East Scotland. The most dramatic and vibrant period only lasts a few minutes so it is very much being in the right place at the best time but it helps having a forest or nice river scene on the doorstep but with a major mountain range to the west of Deeside, often the sun setting behind them or a large bank of rain cloud kills off the best of any last minute colour. By the December the sun setting has moved much more to the west and in my case is well behind the line of Ord Fundlie forest on the left. Although not perhaps calendar material are none the less great photography subjects. Their shapes, size and often awesome sense of power make them a subject I enjoy photographing and are a truer reflection perhaps of the great mix of weather and light we have in the North East. The really colourful period seldom lasts long, maybe 15 mins, so it is very much being in the right place at the right time type of photography. The biggest problem with summer sunsets are they can take longer from the start of colourful clouds through to the more subtle final reds and in that time you are an open meal ticket for the notorious Scottish midges.
