Karnak Khonsu Carving EG075023jhp Karnak Temple Khonsu Ramesses Interior detailed sharp carvings hieroglyphs offering Amun located to the SW corner of this huge sprawling site on the East Bank of the River Nile near the modern City of Luxor and Karnak is the largest religious complex on the Nile. This is taken inside the Temple of Khonsu and the temple is worth a visit as it is usually free of crowds, is well preserved and is adjacent to a nicely decorated Temple of Opet, a Goddess hippopotamus deity who assisted women in childbearing. Built mainly by Ramesses 111 and 1V but later additions by various kings including the Propylon Gate built by Ptolemy 111 from which an avenue of sphinxes leads to the Precinct of Mut, unfortunately closed to the public.
