Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights displays photographed taken over Aberdeeshire in Scotland since 1989 covering some 350 events with arc, rays, coronas with a wide rnage of shapes and colours
Aurora First Digital auSM3907jhp Aurora Borealis Scotland cloud moving red north winter March 2003 Cassiopeia Deeside Aberdeenshire Scotland taken on the evening of the 30th March 2003 at Crooktree, 25 miles west of Aberdeen looking to north. This photo was taken at 00.27hrsUT showing strong patches of green arc and a hint of some red ray activity developing over a tree top on a north bearing and was taken at the end of the second evening’s activity after I stopped using slide film around 23.40hrs UT. This photo was taken with a Fuji Finepix S2 digital camera, the first time I used a digital camera for Aurora photography and a major departure from the years of using 35mm slide film. It was set at an ISO of 1600 to match the same sensitivity used for slide film, push developing 400asa Fuji to 1600asa with exposures set around the 20 second mark and lens aperture of f2.8 and the quality results i.e. noise factor was better than a corresponding grain pattern with pushed slide film. This particular photo was exposed for 11 secs with a 19mm focal length. Luxor Gold of Honour Bearer EG962097JHP Museum Luxor Exhibit Photograph Honor Carving Egyptian Man Statue Beads was taken inside this modern building on the waterfront of the River Nile with its fascinating collection covering the extensive history of ancient Egypt including items from the Tomb of Tutankahum. This particular exhibit dates from around 1400 BC recording the yellow beaded necklace symbolising a recognition of valor by a courtier or soldier and is in the museum proper and was taken in 1996 when you could pay to take photographs but not use a tripod, now not allowed at all, and I used Kodak 5042 Tungsten Slide film which still meant hand holding was at the extremes of useful photography in low light conditions. Rekhmire Tomb Painting EG075704JHP Rekhmire Tomb Painting Luxor West Bank Interior Bear Elephant Photo, one of many beautiful tomb decorations but only lit by reflected sunlight amongst the Tombs of the Nobles on the West Bank of the River Nile at Luxor. Rekhmire Tomb-Chapel [Tomb 100] was a Vizier during the reigns of Tuthmosis 11 and Amenhotep 11, part of a family with long service as administrators at Thebes. This highly decorated cruciform tomb is full images giving great understanding of Egyptian foreign policy, taxation and the justice system. The area around the Tombs has now been greatly improved with removal of many of the old modern houses and entry to these fascinating burial sites made more accessible. This is inside the church next to the elaborately carved Sacrament House now protected by a clear awning is this carved tombstone lid bearing the Gordon Coat of Arms. This 13th Century building was later remodelled in 16th century, with a fine elaborately carved and detailed Scottish medieval door and inside it has a very beautiful sacrament house on the inside, styled like a monstrance and inserted in a lancet window. The backdrop is the spectacular Craig Burn Den or gorge with large woodland of mature beech trees. H Tree Finzean bnm4263jhp H Tree branch Finzean road Feughside interesting Deeside pine tree natural on the Finzean to Forest Birse road with its wide coverage of silver birch trees a popular drive and picnic area to the westwards into Aberdeenshire. It follows the course of the River Feugh which flows into the River Dee at Banchory but the upper end starting at Finzean is famous for its connection to the snow and sheep painter Joseph Farquharson whose estate and home was located there. Bearing right from Finzean this road crosses to Aboyne and Deeside via Ballogie. This tree I remember as a child over 50 years ago as being a Henderson my father showed it to the family on our car trips to picnics in the Forest of Birse and of course explained it was nature recognising our surname. H Tree Finzean bnm4262jhp H Tree branch Finzean roadside Feughside unusual Deeside pine tree nature on the Finzean to Forest Birse road with its wide coverage of silver birch trees a popular drive and picnic area to the westwards into Aberdeenshire. It follows the course of the River Feugh which flows into the River Dee at Banchory but the upper end starting at Finzean is famous for its connection to the snow and sheep painter Joseph Farquharson whose estate and home was located there. Bearing right from Finzean this road crosses to Aboyne and Deeside via Ballogie. This tree I remember as a child over 50 years ago as being a Henderson my father showed it to the family on our car trips to picnics in the Forest of Birse and of course explained it was nature recognising our surname.
